Vineyards

Méry Melrose – Grande Champagne Cru of Cognac

Our vineyards are scattered around the gentle slopes of the historic village, Salles d-Angles.  We farm organically, which is pretty unique for a cognac house.  Our inspiration for farming this way is simple: we have a deep respect for the environment and nature, and we have a responsibility to the future generation that will inherit the land.
Our mission, is to grow high quality wine grapes, it’s hard work!  Organic grown grapes, offer the purest expression, of each varietal, and presents a natural low yielding crop, with an intense taste.  This enables us to produce unique, full flavoured cognacs.
We engage in biodynamic practices to enrich the soil and protect the vines.  All of our vines are in the Grande Champagne Cru, the most prestigious growing area of the Cognac Region, where the soil is shallow clay-limestone, over limestone and chalk.  As well as being certified organic in France by Ecocert, we are certified USDA Organic!
The soil is alive with the mystery of history, organic soil contains carbon-based material that is living, or was once living. Soil contains many, many different things that have been deposited over time, caring for the soil benefits the environment and reduces pollution.

Wine Grapes

Our terroir is suitable for both white and red grapes, and we lovingly cultivate our red grapes, just like our close neighbours in the Bordeaux wine region!  We grow; Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc for elaborating pineau rouge and our elegant table wines.
We are dedicated to growing Cognac varietals and the largest area of our vineyards are planted with: Ugni Blanc, Folle Blanche, Colombard and Montils, which we transform by pressing and distilling to produce cognac and pineau.
We cultivate grape varity Chardonnay, that famous grape originating from the Burgundy wine region of France, for our white table wine, which we vinify and bottle in our cellars.
